About
The Sanctuary provides care and support for individuals and their families experiencing life-challenging illness or bereavement.
Everyone is challenged at some point in their lives, facing their own health issues or dealing with the illness or loss of a loved one. When such traumatic upheaval occurs, The Sanctuary provides a safe and reassuring space where people are helped to better understand and grow through their experience. There is no absolute right way to deal with illness or loss but help to deal with the initial shock, fear and uncertainty can enable people to more effectively and mindfully navigate the changes they face. |
History
The Sanctuary was established in 1995 by the family and friends of Lou Vickers-Willis to provide vital support services for individuals and families. During the final months of her life Lou and her family had to travel beyond their community to receive and benefit from the critically important services now provided by The Sanctuary.
Celebrating its 20th year of service, The Sanctuary has helped over 5,000 families in the Greater Geelong community. The Sanctuary was co-founded by Tara McKinty and Scott Crisp.
The Sanctuary is a partnership between the volunteer Management Committee and the Counsellors and is a registered charity with Tax Exempt status. The Sanctuary is a non-profit organization that relies upon the contribution of many to provide its vital support services.

Philosophy
Our underlying philosophy is that although we cannot always choose the challenges we may face we can, with positive help, choose the way we respond.

“I am better equipped to be the person I want to be, for myself, my family and my community. I feel connected after every visit.
